Course Overview Join us for an immersive journey into the world of stop motion animation with our exclusive offering, Stop Motion 2. Developed in collaboration with industry experts, including Head of Animation Loyd Price and Aardman Co-founder and Creative Director Peter Lord, this 12-week online course stands independently, welcoming participants regardless of prior completion of Stop Motion 1. Further details regarding course content and prerequisites are detailed in the "PARTICIPANTS & APPLICATIONS" section below.
While Stop Motion 1 lays the groundwork for understanding physical character movement, Stop Motion 2 ventures into the realm of advanced facial expressions and performances. Dive deep into techniques such as conversational acting, precise lip-syncing, crafting nuanced mouth shapes, intricate full-body movements, effective use of props, and bringing bi-ped characters to life alongside vocal audio tracks. Additionally, gain insight into the animation production pipeline, from initial animatics to the final shot, and the pivotal role animators play in this process.
Structured over 12 weeks, this course offers guided instruction and hands-on tasks to hone your skills in advanced character animation. Led by a team of seasoned tutors and mentors, Stop Motion 2 caters to industry professionals, animation students, graduates, and self-taught animators, providing an avenue for skill enhancement and professional development.
Each week starts with a live-streamed lecture by the course leader, offering a platform for discussion, idea exchange, and exploration of animation techniques. Following the lecture, delve into specially curated masterclasses and practical tasks led by the animation team designed exclusively for this course. With the flexibility to watch, pause, and revisit lessons at your convenience, you'll embark on continuous learning and improvement.
Task assignments typically comprise two filmed briefings, allowing you to engage in hands-on practice from your home. Upon completion, please submit your work to our secure online community for your mentor to review during weekly feedback sessions. As you progress through weeks 9 to 12, receive ongoing support as you develop your final moving image project. Additionally, please stay connected with peers and mentors through our online community hub, fostering collaboration, discussion, and mutual support.
With an estimated weekly commitment of approximately ten hours, you have the flexibility to tailor your learning experience to suit your schedule. To learn more about this exciting opportunity, join us for our upcoming online open day, hosted by the course leader, via our academy website.
